New Zealand Green List Pathway to Residence
As part of New Zealand's comprehensive border reopening and immigration overhaul, a brand-new Green List – consisting of in-demand occupations - has been introduced. This list provides a streamlined pathway to residence for a range of skilled migrants.
Skilled migrants in occupations featured on the Green List, with a job offer from an accredited employer, can secure a Residence Visa for New Zealand if they meet certain eligibility criteria. A wide spectrum of professions falls under the Green List, including healthcare providers, veterinarians, engineers, ICT specialists, educators, and specific trade occupations. You can see the full list of occupations featured on the Green List here
There are two distinct options available under this pathway, each designed to cater to different scenarios.
Tier 1 Positions (Straight to Residence): Open
Are you ready to take the direct route to New Zealand residence?
Eligibility: If you possess a job offer for an occupation listed in Tier 1 and meet the specified qualification, registration, and wage requirements, congratulations! You are eligible to apply for the Straight to Residence Visa. This pathway is perfect for individuals who have already secured a Tier 1 position and meet the necessary criteria.
Tier 2 Positions (Work to Residence): Opens 29 September 2023
Do you aspire to work your way towards New Zealand residence?
Eligibility: If you have a job or a job offer for an occupation listed in Tier 2 and meet the specified qualification, registration, and wage requirements, this option awaits you. However, there's an additional requirement - you must have accumulated 2 years of relevant work experience in New Zealand on a specified visa. Once you've fulfilled this requirement, you can take the next step and apply for the Work to Residence Visa.
If you work in the trades, there’s good news: New Zealand has recently expanded the Green List, opening the door for more skilled workers to apply for residence under the Work to Residence pathway.
Ten new trade occupations have been added - including welders, metal fabricators, panel beaters, and vehicle painters. This update signals a strong and sustained demand for skilled trades across industries like construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
