Registration
To work in New Zealand as a nurse you will need to be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ), with the registration process being dependent on where you are coming from, your qualifications and your work experience; you will also need to hold an appropriate visa.
Two pathways exist for registration with the NCNZ, with your personal circumstances meaning you can either apply directly for Registration; or complete a Competence Assessment Programme (CAP), which includes a combination of online and in person testing.
With the benefit of a consultation MILNZ will be able to give you an indication of whether you will qualify for direct registration or will need to complete a CAP course (although ultimately a full application will need to be submitted to the NCNZ to confirm your pathway).
Employment & Visa
You will need an offer of employment as a nurse to obtain an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), that allows you to work in NZ; this visa is valid for 5 years and allows you to also apply for associated visas for your immediate family members.
Many of our clients secure an offer of employment from offshore – this is made easier where you have already secured registration with the NCNZ; but in some cases, it may be necessary to come to NZ to complete the CAP course, &/or meet with a prospective employer.
