Two Pathways to Residence for Eligible Parents
At MILNZ, we understand the importance of family reunification. We are dedicated to assisting parents of migrants in joining their loved ones in New Zealand. The New Zealand government offers two pathways for eligible parents to obtain residence.
Under the Parent Retirement Category, parents (and their partners) can obtain a Resident Visa for New Zealand, provided they meet specific criteria:
Investment Requirement: A minimum investment of $1,000,000 for a 4-year period.
Permanently Residing Child: At least one child must be living permanently in New Zealand.
No Dependent Children: Parents should have no dependent children.
Settlement Funds: A demonstration of having at least $500,000 available for settlement costs (which doesn't necessarily need to be invested in New Zealand).
Sufficient Income: A minimum annual income of at least $60,000 at the time of application.
Every year, New Zealand offers 2,000 places for parents of New Zealand citizens or residents to apply for residence. It's essential to understand the requirements and obligations involved:
Sponsorship Obligations: The sponsoring child must commit to providing accommodation and covering financial costs if necessary. They are also responsible for ensuring the health and well-being needs of their parents are met.
Minimum Income Threshold: The sponsoring child (along with their partner) must meet a minimum income threshold.
Note: Strict health and character requirements apply to both parent visa categories.
Navigating the complexities of parent visas can be daunting. At MILNZ, we take great care in assisting families with this process, which can be difficult to understand and navigate. Whether you're interested in either the Parent Retirement Category or the Parent Resident Visa, our experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way.
